Corsetry, an art and a trade
Home of creation since 1930, MAISONLEJABY cultivates its expertise through the know-how of its creative workshops in Lyon. It perpetuates and reinvents unique and beautifully composed state of the art lingerie from the most beautiful materials. Between 30 and 50 elements make up a MAISONLEJABY bra, constructed in 30 to 40 assembly stages by the corset makers.
The styling
MAISONLEJABY is a Maison de Création which, like Gabrielle Vianney, its founder, has always produced a creative signature that combines bold classic with natural elegance.
The mission of the stylists is to respect and play with these codes each season to develop, through sketches, real life lingerie of quality that is modern and spirited. They envision exclusive and subtle cuts, shapes and colours, and create new combinations of quality and delicate materials.
To define the feasibility of each form, the stylists work in close collaboration with the textile engineers and modellers, using their sketches, creative boards, colour ranges and materials.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MATERIAL
The second stage in making a piece of lingerie is to choose the raw materials and fabrics. The textile engineer works in partnership with our exclusive and traditional European suppliers to select the most dignified and skin-friendly materials: mesh, silk, lace, guipure, cotton, lycra, tulle, jersey, etc...
The choice of materials hints at the final rendering, the fall and the general shape.
The fabric can change the style, the comfort and the support of a piece of lingerie. It is therefore necessary to technically validate the material, its behaviour in the wash, its elasticity, and so on until the characteristics required in the specifications are obtained.
Each colour in the MAISONLEJABY exclusive collection is developed and tested. These are the «mixing pot tests», which ultimately lead to the optimal deep or fresh shade depending on the season.
THE MODELLING
In parallel with the research of the stylists and the development of the textile engineers, the sketches will actually take shape in the expert hands of our modellers. The prototyping lasts about 6 months. Each model can be developed up to 6 times with different materials and forms, depending on the feedback from stylists and testing.
The modellers correct the prototypes. They will be tested and modified until the desired effect is achieved.
Once the model is ready, the gradation, adaptation of the basic model into the different cups, and the cutting of pieces can begin.
The MAISONLEJABY corsetry expertise allows bigger sizes and up to an H cup. The challenge for the modellers is to find the balance for a modern and clean cut without taking away from the support and comfort.
A small series will be manufactured by our seamstresses to check the assembly. This will be examined at the fitting by the modeller and then worn and washed to obtain information on comfort, material and fit. After the final validation of the patterns, the models will be sent to the workshops and into the hands of our seamstresses.
THE CORSETRY SEAMSTRESSES
Our corsetry seamstresses make the models according to the indications given by the modeller. They have been guardians of the House's know-how for more than 85 years. They are responsible for the creation of the bra from paper patterns. From the delicate cutting of the materials to the precise assembly of the creations, they also carry forward the know-how of the house.
Is it also they who will uncover any difficulties that may be encountered in the manufacturing, and work with the modellers and the design office to find optimised assembly solutions.
It is in their hands and their control of the sewing machine that the bras will take shape, be tested and then launched into manufacture.
